To all of our School Food Service Professionals:
The school food service professionals in South Carolina are among the best in the nation

. We thought that this past year would have been smoother compared to previous years due to the pandemic. You were undeterred when we discovered that was not the case due to situations like the ongoing supply chain issues and staffing issues. Your resilience and dedication to the children of South Carolina proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that real heroes wear aprons and are found in cafeterias around the state. Thank you for being the heroes on the front line of hunger that our children need. With your hard work, you have provided nutritious meals and helped the 1 in 6 children that are food insecure. Your efforts in the cafeteria alleviated a basic need so students can concentrate on schoolwork and make fewer trips to the nurse’s office. You should be extremely proud of the work you do by providing nutritious meals during the school year and during the summer months.
As president, I want to engage you and other stakeholders more in our processes because you are why we exist. I look forward to hearing how we can have a greater impact on the work that you do. We would love for you to engage with projects and as members of the various committees that we have on the board. Your skills and talents are needed. Consider volunteering as part of the membership committee, nutrition education committee, professional development committee or other committees on the board.
We have an amazing board that I look forward to working with and I can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together with your collaboration. Feel free to contact me with any concerns or suggestions.
Sincerely,
Donna
