I love this time of year when the peaches rest on the trees and home grown tomatoes hang from the vines, just waiting to be canned or a tasty tomato sandwich. The birds sing to us early in the morning.  We get to enjoy the beautiful Carolina sunset.

I trust that you all had a great summer with your family and friends. It is my honor to welcome you back to school and I hope that each of you will to provide some “love” in cooking for the students of the Palmetto State.

I hope that all of you are members of School Nutrition Association of South Carolina (SNA of SC). If not, please contact our Executive Director, Mrs. Joyce Lovett, because she would love to help you become a member.

The annual conference is right around the corner on October 13-16th and I know Mr. Leon “George” Williams and his committee have a great conference planned and I hope you will come to Myrtle Beach for Professional Development and some great networking opportunities. I hope you come back with some sand in your shoes and shells in your pockets and new knowledge about Child Nutrition Programs.

Summer Institute Food Service Training (SIFT) workshops will be held in June 2017. All who attend will come away with new knowledge and motivation to make the meals better in our schools. Stay tuned for more details on how to earn a higher education scholarship or contact Ms. Diane Gillie, she would love to tell you more about the scholarship program for our members.

In closing, I want to express my appreciation for our board members and the Industry Advisory Council for all the hard work they will be doing this year.  It makes my job as president of SNA of SC easier when everyone steps up to the plate and performs his/her responsibilities. Last, thanks to each one of you for what you do for the students in South Carolina. I will continue to work hard as your President and make improvements in our Association.

Todd A. Bedenbaugh, President of SNA of SC 2016-2017
