FROM THE PRESIDENT
As we witnessed together the awesome display that Mother Nature provided us by way of the Eclipse this summer, it should remind us all that we are small beings in this vast universe, but what we can have a large impact on ourselves and the greater society of the world when we come and work together for the greater good.
Welcome back to this 2017-2018 school year. It is a great honor to have been elected and serve as your President of the South Carolina School Nutrition Association this school year. You have elected a great team of people to serve on the SNA of SC Board of Directors. Along with the committees staffed by our Board members and volunteers and the continuing good work done by Joyce Lovett and Diane Gillie, we plan to accomplish a lot of great things for the association this year.
In the school foodservice environment, this will be an exciting and challenging year for all of us. While we recognize that our SNA members, foodservice workforce and customers are changing, our mission of feeding healthy nutritious meals, advocating for the school foodservice program and training our foodservice workers remains constant. We will carry out our mission through the various events that we host and are involved in each year.
We have several events planned for this year. Our annual SNA of SC Conference in Myrtle Beach in October 2017 will be a great start to our year. Our conference planning committee, chaired by Todd Bedenbaugh has done a great job in planning an exciting conference for us. In addition to our annual conference, we will host an Industry conference in February 2018 to include vendors representing food, equipment and services. Our association will send representatives to the Legislative Action Conference in Washington DC in March 2018 to advocate for our foodservice program to our South Carolina Legislative Representatives. We will begin our summer in June of 2018 with our annual Summer Institute of foodservice training (SIFT) at 4 regional sites around the state. We so much appreciate the collaboration of working with the State Office of Health and Nutrition in helping us teaching the many foodservice courses in SIFT. We will also host a Leadership Conference to help develop leadership skills among our foodservice workers and association members.
As you can see, we have a lot of work and fun ahead of us. We will need your involvement and assistance in all of these activities for us to be successful. I look forward to interacting with each of you during this year and hope that you will have the best school year ever. Thank you.
